MI works with Collegiate Housing Services (CHS) to provide information to any students that may have housing needs. CHS can help students with their two options described below.
For more information, please visit their website .
1. Shared Housing is best suited for the student who needs a fixed cost for housing in a dorm style setting but with the space of a full sized apartment. CHS offers a roommate package that includes each person's portion of rent, budgeted utilities (including electricity and water), larger pieces of furniture so all students have to bring are their personal items, and a lease protection clause in the event of roommate default.
Some of the benefits include:
- Live in the same community as other MI students
- CHS offers flexible lease lengths to match the time needed, or desired, up to graduation
- CHS offers individual leases so each person is financially protected in the event a roommate leaves or cannot pay their portion
- Transferability within the program, from one CHS apartment to another or one CHS complex to another
- All locations are pre-screened and approved by the school personnel, close to campus, and on the public transportation bus line for those without vehicles
- CHS coordinates student life events for social interaction amongst the residents
- CHS has Resident Assistants that live on the property and are available to residents after hours
- CHS has on campus representation and is available during posted office hours
- CHS has an extensive application process that includes criminal background checks for each resident approved for housing
- The shared housing program is a structured and supervised program so parents can feel assured that although students are living away from home they are not alone
2. Independent Housing is ideal for older students, couples, families, or those with pets. CHS can assist MI students as a locator service by referring them to independent apartment complexes in the surrounding area. Students would be subject to the rates dictated by those complexes, submit applications and deposits directly, set up their own utilities, and furnish their apartments on their own. Many of the apartment complexes allow pets but may charge additional pet deposits.
3. Referral Housing
If you decide not to participate in our program, CHS offers Referral Housing where we provide you with a variety of housing referral information to assist you in getting an apartment on your own. Our goal is to make your transition from home to MI as smooth as possible.
