INTERSCOPE VP TONY FERGUSON JOINS MI CAREER COUNSELING STAFF
Famed Industry Exec Has Been Involved In The
Careers Of No Doubt, Bush, Snoop Dogg,
Eminem And Enrique Iglesias
Musicians Institute (www.mi.edu) is pleased to announce that another legendary A&R exec has joined its staff of Career Counselors: Tony Ferguson, Vice President and Co-founder of Interscope Records.
Long the “go-to guy” for indie bands seeking guidance and objectivity, Ferguson will continue his duties at Interscope while providing exclusive one-on-one career advice to MI students and grads via the school’s Artist and Career Services Department, which also provides career support through its unique Hiring Hall talent showcase and extensive Musicians Referral database.
Tony began his career in the English music scene of the late 60’s, forming his own production company to provide managerial and technical backup for major UK artists. After moving to the U.S., he met legendary record executive Jimmy Iovine and helped form Interscope Records, where he was involved in the discovery, development and marketing of No Doubt, Bush, Snoop Dogg, Brian Setzer, Eminem, Smashmouth, Enrique Iglesias and many others.
Musicians Institute has long prided itself on its ever-expanding staff of industry pros, including a collection of A&R talent on its faculty and counseling rosters that any major label would envy. Noted A&R veterans include producer, songwriter and attorney Jeff Blue, Warner Bros., Geffen and Columbia Records consultant Barry Squire, and Jeff Rabhan, well-known personal manager and partner in The Firm, the top management company in America.
In January 2009, Randy Lewis of the L.A. Times wrote a Calendar Section cover story on the changing nature of A&R as seen through the eyes of MI’s Music Business Program staff of industry veterans (check it out at: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2009/01/hollywoods-musi.html).
Since 1977, Musicians Institute (MI) has trained thousands of graduates for careers in every genre of contemporary music. From the beginning, MI revolutionized music education with hands-on, intensive, performance-based programs taught by working professionals. Today, MI’s unique, innovative approach includes degree and certificate programs for career-minded guitarists, bassists, drummers, vocalists, keyboardists, audio engineers, independent artists, guitar makers, music business professionals and filmmakers.
