Open Counseling with Guitarist Ian Robbins

|    Feb 08, 2012

MI’s Bachelor Degree program presents two special Open Counseling sessions with guitarist Ian Robbins, where he will explain and demonstrate his hybrid (pick and fingers) picking technique and how to apply it to various styles. Students are invited to bring chord progressions, play with Ian, and hear his perspectives on concepts they can apply to their own solos.

Ian Robbins graduated from USC with Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Studio/Jazz Performance. As a member of the Bruce Escovitz Jazz Orchestra (BEJO), he appeared on the 2008 album Invitation, which spent several weeks in the top half of the Billboard Jazz charts and received airplay on KJAZ 88.1 FM and other national jazz stations. He has performed and recorded with artists including Barry Manilow, Bonnie Raitt, Wynton Marsalis, Peter Erskine, Toni Tennille, Louis Bellson, Kurt Elling, Ernie Watts, Marilyn McCoo, Alan Chang, Lee Thornberg, and many others, as well as session work for GRAMMY-winning producer Bobby Watson and Nickelodeon Studios. Ian is a member of the Hip Hop/Electronica group Dancing Mischief, which has recently been receiving airplay on KCRW FM, and is also the lead guitarist-singer-songwriter for original punk rock band Get OutTM, with five albums in international release, endorsement by energy drink company Nitro 2 Go, and performances alongside such national acts as Voodoo Glow Skulls, Streetlight Manifesto, MXPX, and Suburban Legends.
